Instinct Martial Arts, the Stephane Patry-headed promotion based in Montreal, has announced that it has signed a fight between former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Renato “Babalu” Sobral (36-9) and Steve “The Boss” Bosse (9-1) for its fourth event slated for sometime in May.

The news of the 36-year-old Sobral’s signing comes as a surprise after it was announced in late December that he had signed an exclusive agreement with ONE Fighting Championshipand that he would make his debut with the Singapore-based promotion on March 31.

Sobral, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and  former UFC light heavyweight championship challenger, has not seen action since Dec. 4, 2010, when he was stopped with a barrage of punches in the first round of action in a Strikeforce main event bout against old rival Dan Henderson, who had defeated Sobral by way of majority decision 10 years earlier in Japan.

Prior to the defeat in the rematch with Henderson, Sobral had earned a unanimous decision win over “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler in the main event of  a mid-week Strikeforce event in Los Angeles on June 16, 2010.

Last October, Bosse scored a KO on former UFC star Houston Alexander with an elbow strike to the head  during Instinct’s first event.   Bosse sustained a broken hand en route to the victory, an injury that has sidelined him since.   It was without a doubt the greatest night of his career, but the win came with a hefty price: a broken hand that would keep him out of action for over 6 months, halting his momentum.

Instinct will roll out its third event on March 31 in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada.
