BAMMA 29: Walsh vs. Blackwell & Martin vs. Rutkowksi Added to Prelims

By Press Release

[London 10.04.17] Two more exciting contests have been added to the BAMMA 29 lineup for Birmingham. Shay Walsh will take on Aaron ‘Smackwell’ Blackwell in the Bantamweight Division while Stephen Martin battles with Daniel Rutkowski in the Featherweight division. Mindaugas Gerve also gets a new opponent in Maciej ‘Magic’ Sosnowski.

BAMMA 29: McDermott Vs. Wolf takes place at the Genting Arena, Birmingham 12th May 2017. Tickets are on sale now from The Ticket Factory or via the following link http://bit.ly/BAMMA29

Shay Walsh and Aaron Blackwell are two men on a mission. Walsh to once again claim the Bantamweight Title that he previously held, and Aaron Blackwell to show the world the fighter that he truly is. There is no love lost between these two warriors and Birmingham prepares for a titanic battle.

“I’m delighted to confirm that Shay has re-signed with BAMMA on a multi-fight deal. It was always our aim to bring Shay back to the promotion as he’s one of the most exciting talents in UKMMA and is a huge addition to the Bantamweight division” – David Green, BAMMA CEO

“It’s great to re-sign with Bamma, the leading MMA promotion in Europe. I’m looking forward to bringing a big crowd to Birmingham and putting on a show in front of my friends and family. I’m here to regain my BAMMA world title. Anyone that stands in my way will be run over.” – Shay Walsh

“I’ve been going back to my roots as a martial artist the last 6 months, learning and growing in new ways, thank you to BAMMA for having me, it’s a fantastic opportunity to be taking on a guy like Shay Walsh on one of the greatest stages in MMA. It’s a great challenge and I think it will be the fight to watch on the night” – Aaron Blackwell

Another Featherweight contest that’s been added to the BAMMA 29 lineup sees the newly signed Stephen Martins face off against Daniel Rutkowkski. Both fighters are hugely competitive and will be aiming to get a foothold on the Featherweight division. Each will be edging their way to the top, with an aim to eventually gaining the chance to face off against the current champion and Europes Number one, Damien ‘Frankenstein’ Lapilus.

Replacing Luke Morton is Maciej ‘Magic’ Sosnowski. ‘Magic’ now gets an opportunity on one of the biggest stages in Europe to make a name for himself by facing Gerve on May 12th.

Additional Information

Shay Walsh (15-4) returns to BAMMA having re-signed with the promotion with a new multi-fight deal. The “#TeamBanter” crowd favourite is on a mission to reclaim the BAMMA Bantamweight title that he first won at BAMMA 23 against Ed ‘King’ Arthur. The Lancashire MMA / Tiger Muay Thai fighter is fresh off his dominant performance against James McEarlen at BAMMA 28/Bellator 173, Belfast in February. (@ShayWalsh)

Aaron ‘Smackwell’ Blackwell (15-10-1) out of Morden, London is looking to dispel memories of a disappointing debut at BAMMA 26 against Alan ‘The Apprentice’ Philpott. After taking some time out, the Nova Forca fighter is back with a renewed vigour and has signed on the dotted line for probably the hardest comeback challenge he could have possibly chosen in Shay Walsh. However, Blackwell is not one to take the easy path to the top and is out to prove a point on May 12th. (@SmackwellMMA)

Stephen Martin (6-4) made his first appearance way back at BAMMA 13 where he lost a close decision to Tim Wilde. The Martins Marital Arts Academy head trainer and fighter is a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Japanese Ju Jitsu and is also a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt under Braulio Estima (3 x Black Belt World Champion). Previously he has been the Brown Belt European Gi & NoGi Champion and holds multiple British and International BJJ Titles. The Derby based fighter has now signed a multi fight deal with the promtion and this will be his first appearance under the new contract. (@SteMartinMMA)

Daniel Rutkowksi (2-2) returns after his debut at BAMMA 28 against Niall Smith with a very impressive 3rd round TKO. The IFS Belfast fighter from Radom, Poland now finds himself on a 2 fight win streak and will certainly be knocking on the door of the top end of the BAMMA Featherweight division with a couple more solid victories against credible opponents, such as Martins.

Maciej ‘Magic’ Sosnowski (0-1) is a Polish born fighter, who trains out of Oxford Shootfighters. With a heavy handed straight forward approach, the Oxford based fighter also has a strong wrestling base.
