Bellator 123: Pat Curran-Patricio “Pitbull” II, Cheick Kongo-Lavar Johnson Confirmed, “King Mo” Lawal and Bobby Lashley set to Compete

By FCF Staff

Bellator has announced, that as expected, it’s September 5th card in Uncasville, Connecticut will feature Pat Curran versus Patricio Freire II. In addition, the promotion has announced that “King Mo” Lawal, Cheick Kongo, Lavar Johnson and Bobby Lashley will also compete.

Curran (20-5) and “Pitbull” (21-2) battled for the first time in January, 2013, and the featherweight champ handed Freire a split decision loss. Since the defeat, the latter has won four straight fights to lock up another title shot.

“I’ve been wanting this rematch with Curran for a long time, and it’s finally here,” “Pitbull” was quoted saying in a press release from the promotion. “I won that first fight, and I should be Bellator Featherweight Champion right now. This time, I’m not going to let it go to the judges. Curran has started to get cocky and he’s disrespecting me. He has no idea what I’ve been through to get to the title.”

“Pitbull has been running his mouth a lot lately and everyone is sick of hearing it,” Curran said. “I’m ready to shut him up for good. I’m an even better fighter now than I was the first time we fought and I’ll show you him how a true champion fights on September 5th.”

Lawal (12-4) will be looking to rebound from his controversial, decision loss to “Rampage” Jackson, versus light-heavyweight Tom DeBlass (9-2). The latter is coming off a knockout win over UFC vet Jason Lambert.

Bellator 123 will also feature a heavyweight clash between two UFC vets, as Cheick Kongo will battle Lavar Johnson. Kongo (21-9-2) stopped Eric Smith in his previous bout, while Johnson (18-9) was tapped out by Blagoi Ivanov.

In another heavyweight fight, the former pro wrestler Lashley (10-2) will take on Josh Burns (6-7). Lashley has won three straight coming into the bout, and Burns was stopped by Raphael Butler in his last outing.

The upcoming card, which takes place the same night the UFC is holding an event in nearby Ledyard, will be hosted by the Mohegan Sun Arena.

Here is the complete line-up for the main card, which will be broadcast on SPIKE.
