Bellator 155: Georgi Karakhanyan Says he Has to Focus on Beating Pat Curran, Not Title Shots

Although the winner of tonight’s bout between Pat Curran and Georgi Karakhanyan could determine who will challenge for Bellator’s 145 title next, the latter says he can’t think about that just yet.

Karakhanyan has been booked to fight the former champion tonight at Bellator 155, which will take place in Boise, Idaho. Recently Bellator held a media call to promote the event, and while talking about the title shot implications of his fight, Karakhanyan stated (quote via Bellator press release):

“I know everybody is talking about the title but to me I don’t think about that, right now I have a good opponent in front of me with Pat Curran, a former champion and I can’t ask for a better opponent than him. I am very excited, I cannot wait and I am ready to put on a great show and I’m for sure coming out with my hands right.”

The bout will mark the first time Karakhanyan (24-5-1) has fought since December, when he lost via unanimous decision to Daniel Weichel. Since then Karakhanyan, who is 3-2 in his last 5 contests, has undergone another surgery.

“I treat everything the same, I got about five surgeries last year and the last surgery was just a meniscus tear but after that, Bellator took good care of me. They put me in a very good rehab place and I’ve started my training and feel 100 percent.”

Curran (21-7), meanwhile, is coming off a UD win over Emmanuel Sanchez last summer. The veteran is 2-3 in his last 5 contests.

Bellator 155’s main card will be broadcast on Spike.
