Bellator 57: Shlemenko Outscores Vianna, Lima Takes Out Saunders for Tourney Win

Lima finishing Saunders

Douglas Lima further demonstrated why he is one of the sport’s fastest rising welterweights last night in Rama, Ontario, by stopping UFC vet Ben Saunders to win Bellator’s welterweight tournament.

Lima survived a late scare in round one, as Saunders established a full mount on the ATT Atlanta fighter and attacked with elbows from above. Shortly into round two, Lima dropped Saunders with a nicely timed, counter right hand, and finished the former TUF competitor off with a series of hammer fists.

Alexander Shlemenko entrenched a rematch with Bellator Middleweight Champion Hector Lombard, by outscoring Wand Fight Team’s Vitor Vianna with strikes throughout their three round bout.

Although Vianna never appeared to be in serious danger of being stopped, the BJJ black belt was largely unable to get Shlemenko to the mat, and could not match the offensive production of the Russian’s diverse striking game.

Here are the official results from Bellator 57.

Douglas Lima def. Ben Saunders via TKO (strikes) – R2, 1:21
Alexander Shlemenko def. Vitor Vianna via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 30-27)
