Bellator debuted on SPIKE TV tonight in Irvine, California, by promoting an event that featured two title fights and three quarterfinal bouts in its latest light-heavyweight tournament.

In the end, Pat Curran retained his featherweight belt by edging out Patricio Freire with a split decision win, while lightweight champ Michael Chandler tapped out Rick Hawn with a second round, rear-naked-choke.

Although Bellator understandably threw a lot of promotional hype behind UFC vet Renato “Babalu” Sobral, and his participation in the light-heavyweight tourney, the accomplished fighter was stopped by M-1 vet Mikhail Zayats in round one.
