Bellator Announces Ken Shamrock to Face “Kimbo Slice”

By FCF Staff

In an announcement that is likely to raise eyebrows throughout MMA, Bellator has confirmed that it has booked a bout between Ken Shamrock and “Kimbo Slice” for June 20th.

The heavyweight fight will go down at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

“I remember how excited I was when this fight was originally announced, and how disappointed I was when it didn’t come to fruition at that time,” Bellator President Scott Coker was quoted saying in a press release from the promotion.  “I’m very happy we were able to put this one together because I know these guys still have a lot of unfinished business to take care of, and when they do, it will be something special.”

Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson and Shamrock were scheduled to fight at an Elite XC event in 2008, but the latter incurred a cut shortly before the fight, and the bout was called off. Ferguson fought Seth Petruzelli instead and was stopped shortly into the fight.

The 51 year-old Shamrock hasn’t fought in MMA since 2010, when he was stopped by Mike Bourke.

“I am back,” Shamrock said. “It’s good to be performing again for my fans. I feel great, and my health is great. Age should never be a factor if an athlete is healthy, in great shape, and has the drive to continue their sport. I will quit fighting when I want to.”

The 41 year-old Ferguson, meanwhile, hasn’t competed in MMA since he was TKO’d by Matt Mitrione that same year. More recently, the former street fighter put together a 7-0 record in pro boxing.

“Ken Shedrack, I owe you this ass whooping,” Slice said. “No more running! No more hiding!”

No other bouts have been confirmed for the upcoming, Bellator event.
