Bellator Champ Eddie Alvarez Apologizes for Criticizing Interim Title Fight
By FCF Staff
After relaying that he didn’t understand why Bellator has elected to crown an interim lightweight champ at the promotion’s pay-per-view event this Saturday, Eddie Alvarez has apologized for the comments.
The lightweight champ was forced to withdraw from a third fight with Michael Chandler just a few days ago, after suffering a concussion in training recently. Bellator has booked Will Brooks to fight Chandler this weekend, and the bout will determine an interim champion.
In a recent interview with MMA Junkie.com, Alvarez noted he had never seen a situation where the organization booked an interim title fight, after the champion couldn’t compete in “one fight.” Further, Alvarez said he “didn’t get” why Bellator had decided to move ahead with an interim title.
On Tuesday, the 30 year-old fighter tweeted the following comments:
I apologize @BellatorMMA about my comments yesterday about the interm belt , U guys been supportive thru out , my reaction was out of line
