Bellator Signs Nam Phan, UFC Vet to Face Mike Richman Next

By FCF Staff

Bellator has added another UFC vet to its roster, as the promotion has announced that Nam Phan will take on Mike Richman at its upcoming, November 15th card.

The bantamweight fight will be part of Bellator 131, which will be hosted by the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego.

Phan (20-13) has won back-to-back fights since he exited from the UFC earlier this year. Since he was defeated by Vaughan Lee in March, the 31 year-old has scored wins over Kenichi Ito and Yuki Baba while competing in Japan.

I’m very excited to be part of the new Bellator with Scott Coker and the rest of the team,” Phan said in the official announcement. “This is an opportunity to fight on a huge stage once again and I’m so happy to be able to fight in front of all my friends, family and supporters in California.”

Richman (17-5) is coming off a first round, KO win over Ed West in September, after dropping consecutive fights to Desmond Green and Goiti Yamauchi.

“This is a fight that is going to kick off this stacked show with a bang,” Richman said. “Fans can expect two talented punchers staying in the pocket looking for the finish. I plan on seeing a bunch of Marines in attendance cheering loud, and just like we do in the Marine Corps, I’m going to locate, close width, and destroy the enemy by fire and maneuver.”

Bellator 131 will be headlined by a light-heavyweight bout between Tito Ortiz and Stephan Bonnar. The card will also see Michael Chandler battle Will Brooks for the vacant lightweight title.
