BJ Penn And Frankie Edgar Coaching TUF 19, Third Bout Set For 2014
By FCF Staff
The UFC has dropped some shocking news Wednesday, as the promotion has announced that BJ Penn will coach opposite of Frankie Edgar during TUF 19, and that the two will fight for a third time in April, 2014. The bout will take place at featherweight.
TUF 19 is set to feature middleweight and light-heavyweight fighters, and the season will begin airing in January.
Although Penn’s camp recently relayed that the decorated fighter was contemplating a return at lightweight, it remained unclear as to when. Penn (16-9-2) hasn’t fought since last December, when he was outgunned by welterweight contender Rory MacDonald and lost by unanimous decision. Prior to that, Penn dropped a one sided, UD loss to Nick Diaz in October, 2011.
Edgar (16-4-1) dropped to featherweight after losing consecutive bouts to Benson Henderson in 2012, and proceed to lose by unanimous decision to champion Jose Aldo in February.
Of course, Edgar ended Penn’s run as lightweight champion in 2010, by handing “The Prodigy” a UD loss at UFC 112. A few months later at UFC 118, Edgar defended the title with another decision win.
