BJ Penn Doesn’t Expect to be Suspended For “Long”, Following IV Violation

Recently the UFC announced BJ Penn is being pulled from UFC 199, after violating USADA’s policies regarding IV use, but the legendary fighter doesn’t expect to be sidelined long.

Penn was scheduled to fight Cole Miller at the June 4th event, but was flagged for a potential anti-doping violation, since he informed USADA he had used an IV in excess of 50 ML (in a six-hour period).

Recently the former lightweight and welterweight champ appeared on KHON2 News in Hawaii, and had this to say about his pending suspension (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“I don’t think it should be so long. I don’t think it should be too long because, I mean ignorance of the rule is no excuse but it has nothing to do with banned substances. We’re not doing anything with any performance enhancement. I think they’ve just gotta lay down the punishment for whatever they feel.”

The 37 year-old Penn hasn’t fought since July, 2014, when he was stopped by Frankie Edgar.
