The consensus, greatest boxer of all time, Muhammad Ali, has reportedly passed away at the age of 74.

According to multiple reports, the legendary fighter died late on Friday at a hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. Ali had been battling a respiratory illness, which was further complicated by Parkinson’s disease.

Ali retired from boxing in 1981 with a record of 56-5. Ali won the heavyweight championship of the world three times, as well as the Gold Medal in boxing at the 1960 Olympic Games (at light-heavyweight). His bouts with Joe Frazier, George Foreman and Ken Norton became legendary.

In addition, Ali’s charismatic personality and ability to relay headline grabbing statements helped make him one of the biggest stars in the world. Ali was also an outspoken critic of the Vietnam War, and refused to enlist when he was drafted to fight in the conflict.
