Brock Lesnar has announced that he’s signed a new deal with the WWE, and that he’s closed the book on his MMA career.

For months now, there’s been widespread speculation about the future of Lesnar, and whether he might return to the UFC. There have been reports that the fighter was leaning towards remaining a professional wrestler, but there was also stories that Lesnar was considering a UFC comeback.

While appearing on ESPN’s SportsCenter on Tuesday, however, Lesnar confirmed that his MMA career is over.

“The fighter in me, wants to compete, the father, the husband, I’m an older cave man now,” said Lesnar. “So I make wiser, cave man decisions, so I’m here to say that my legacy in the Octagon is over. However, my legacy, this Sunday at Wrestlemania, will not be my last.”

“For the last two months, two and a half months, I’ve been training to get back into the Octagon, and felt physically great, but something lacked mentally, and that’s not good.”

Lesnar went on to add that he talked to the UFC’s Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta about returning, but that ultimately, he’s “happy” with the WWE.

The 37 year-old made his way to the UFC in 2008 and went on to win the promotion’s heavyweight championship. After fighting diverticulitis, and incurring back-to-back stoppage losses to Alistair Overeem and Cain Velasquez, Lesnar left the UFC in 2011.

The decorated wrestler put together a 5-3 record during his time as professional MMA fighter.
