(Updated) Broken Hand Removes Diego Sanchez From UFC 135, Josh Koscheck Says He May Face Matt Hughes

By FCF Staff

A broken hand will prevent Diego Sanchez from fighting former champion Matt Hughes (pictured) as scheduled, September 24th at UFC 135. The promotion’s President Dana White announced the injury via his official Twitter account and that the search for a replacement had begun.

Josh Koscheck then proceeded to ‘tweet’ that “it looks like I’m in to fight Matt Hughes if he takes it?” The UFC has not made any official announcement as to whether Koscheck may in fact replace Sanchez.

The injury will postpone Sanchez’s (23-4) quest for a third consecutive win, as the former “Ultimate Fighter” has won back-to-back bouts over Paulo Thiago and Martin Kampmann, following a unanimous decision loss to John Hathaway last May.

Hughes (45-8) is coming off a knockout loss to BJ Penn last November, which ended the decorated fighter’s three fight win streak.

Koscheck (15-5) has not fought since last December when he lost by unanimous decision to welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre. A broken orbital bone Koscheck incurred in the fight has kept him on the sidelines since.

UFC 135 will be hosted by Denver’s Pepsi Center and will feature a light-heavyweight title fight between champion Jon Jones and former champ Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.
