Broughton and Baczynski Injury Replacements for UFC 138, 139

Broughton

By FCF Staff

Just a few weeks before the Ultimate Fighting Championship will begin its November schedule, the promotion’s UFC 138 and UFC 139 cards have undergone changes. The company announced today that both heavyweight Oli Thompson and welterweight John Hathaway have been forced to withdraw from their scheduled bouts due to injury.

According to the UFC site, British veteran Rob Broughton has agreed to step in for Thompson at the upcoming November 5th, UFC 138 card in Birmingham, England.

Broughton (15-6) is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Travis Browne at UFC 135 in September, after tapping out Vinicius Kappke de Queiroz at UFC 120 last October.

DeFries (7-0) will be making his promotional debut at UFC 138, after scoring seven submission wins while competing on the British circuit.

Former TUF competitor Seth Baczynski will step in for the injured Hathaway at the upcoming November 19th, UFC 139 card in San Jose.

Baczynski (14-6) recently made his Octagon return and tapped out Clay Harvison at UFC Fight Night 25 in September, to extend his winning streak to three.

Brown (12-10) scored a UD victory over John Howard at UFC Live 4 in June, to end a three fight losing skid.

The nature of Hathaway’s and Thompson’s injuries were not disclosed.

UFC 138 will be headlined by a middleweight bout between Chris Leben and Mark Munoz, while UFC 139 will feature former Strikeforce champ Dan Henderson taking on former UFC champ Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.
