Featherweight Tourney Quarterfinals Confirmed

As expected, Eddie Alvarez will take on another of the promotion’s top lightweights in Patricky Freire, October 12th, in Windsor, Ontario. The Bellator 76 card will also feature the quarterfinals of the promotion’s upcoming featherweight tourney.

The event will be hosted by Caesars Windsor and will be broadcast live on MTV 2.

Alvarez (23-3) hasn’t fought since he stopped DREAM champion Shinya Aoki in the first round at Bellator 66 in April.

“After hearing Bellator wanted to put this fight together, I really don’t think they could have made a better matchup for the fans to enjoy,” Alvarez was quoted saying in a press release from the promotion. “Pitbull has proven to be a legitimate threat in the past and I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

Freire (10-3) is coming off a second round, submission loss to Lloyd Woodard in March.

“October 12 is going to be a big test for me, but I’m very happy for this fight, and the opportunity Bellator is giving me to fight someone like Eddie Alvarez,” Freire said. “I can’t put into words the emotion I’m feeling from thinking about this fight. I’m a warrior, and I always fight for pride. I want this fight, and I’m going to give the fans a show.”
