CFFC 46: Anthony Smith Warns Tim Williams Fighting The UFC Vet is a “Whole Different World”

Tim Williams has been drawing praise as a middleweight on the rise, but Anthony Smith believes the CFFC champ is in for a rude awakening, when the two fight Saturday night. While Williams has turned heads by posting a 10-1 record, Smith believes the New Jersey fighter hasn’t faced the level of competition he’s battled, while competing for the UFC, Strikeforce and Bellator.

“I know he was on “The Ultimate Fighter”, but I know he doesn’t have those big show fights. It’s a whole different kind of thing”, Smith relayed on a recent episode of Full Contact Fighter Radio. “I don’t think he’s ever fought someone with the type of intensity that I bring to the table…It may be in his home in his home area, and kind of his home show, but when I’m in the cage it’s a whole different world, and anyone I’ve ever fought, win or lose, will tell you that….”

While the 26 year-old Smith (20-11) has competed for various organizations in recent years, Williams (10-1) has been fighting under the CFFC banner since 2011 and has posted a 5-1 record. One would think that if the 28 year-old can defeat an established vet like Smith, calls from international organizations like the UFC will follow.

“Absolutely,” said Smith, when asked if he feels like he’s being brought in to put Williams over, and if he’s welcoming the opportunity to play the spoiler. “You know, his managers, his coaches, and the people that are supporting him and his career know that with the streak that he’s on right now, and already holding the title, which is a pretty prestigious title in the regional circuit, that a win over me will probably be enough to get him in the UFC…”

“I know he’s looking at this as his opportunity, and what he doesn’t know is that they didn’t find me, I found him,” furthered Smith. “They have it completely backwards. It wasn’t that I was sitting at home, and that all of a sudden I got this call, and I was like ‘oh, I’ll take this fight’. We were looking for a fight like this. This isn’t me being being brought in to pump his career, or that I’m on the down fall, or that I need the money. If that was the case I would have fought a whole lot of other fights for more money. I found him. He didn’t find me…I’m trying to get where I need to be and I placed him in my path.”

Williams will encounter Smith as he’s riding a three fight win streak, which includes victories over Victor Moreno and Brian Green under the Bellator banner. Most recently, “Lionheart” tapped out Andrew Kapel while fighting for Extreme Beatdown in November.

“I’m still under contract with Bellator,” Smith confirmed, before expressing his gratitude to the promotion for allowing him to fight outside the organization. “With the transition Bellator’s going through right now, with the new president (Scott Coker), and all the changes that they’re making, they’re kind of slowing down on fights a lot, and I don’t want to wait around…”

CFFC 46 will be hosted by Harrah’s Casino in in Chester, Pennsylvania, and you can catch the card via Go Fight Live.
