The long awaited, Chael Sonnen-Wanderlei Silva will no longer take place on May 24th at UFC 173, as the promotion has announced it will headline a May 31st card.

Silva-Sonnen was initially set to be the co-main event at UFC 173 in Las Vegas, but now the bout will headline a card in Brazil one week later. The city and venue for the May 31st show has not been determined.

Sonnen (28-14-1) will be looking to rebound from a stoppage loss to Rashad Evans at UFC 167, after he tapped out “Shogun” Rua at UFC FN 26 in August.

Silva (35-12-1) hasn’t fought now since March, 2013, when he knocked out Brian Stann. Prior to that, in June, 2012, the former PRIDE champ lost via unanimous decision  to Rich Franklin.

Sonnen and Silva are currently coaching opposite one another on the set of TUF Brazil.

Recently, Sonnen offered to fight Daniel Cormier on short notice at UFC 170, as a result of Rashad Evans withdrawing due to injury.
