Strikeforce has been forced to do some last minute juggling for its upcoming September 23rd, Challengers event, as today the promotion announced that welterweight Chris Spang would replace the injured Jerron Peoples at the event. Spang will step in on short notice and fight Joe Ray.

Strikeforce has also confirmed that scheduled headliner Virgil Zwicker has also been forced from the card due to injury, however, a new opponent for Lorenz Larkin has yet to be determined.

Spang will make his Strikeforce debut having won three straight fights since he turned pro in 2008. Most recently the Vegas fighter tapped out Adam Hazelton in June while fighting for Hope Fight Productions.

Ray (5-2) is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Nah-Shon Burrell at a Strikeforce card in June, after submitting John Kelly with a first round armbar in May, while competing for the Championship Fighting Alliance.

Some of the other bouts scheduled for the upcoming September 23rd event, which will be hosted by the Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, include Jason High vs. Todd Moore, Ryan Couture vs. Maka Watson and Lavar Johnson vs. Shawn Jordan.

The card will be broadcast on Showtime.
