Chris Weidman Says Michael Bisping is Playing it “Smart”, Ducking Former Champ to Keep Belt

Recently Michael Bisping has been talking about the possibility of facing Georges St-Pierre and Dan Henderson, and Chris Weidman believes it’s because the newly crowned champ doesn’t want to face him.

Bisping took out Luke Rockhold in the opening round at UFC 199 earlier this month, who originally was scheduled to face Weidman. The former champ had to withdraw, however, due to a neck injury. Since the win, Bisping as argued that Weidman and Rockhold should fight as scheduled, and the winner should receive a title shot.

Weidman attended a Q&A in advance of UFC FN 89 in Ottawa, and while doing so, he said this about Bisping (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“I guess it’s something I gotta get used to, for at least a little bit,” Weidman said. “It’s just a reality that has happened, because of me, because I got injured. He should be kissing my feet right now, instead he’s not saying my name. It’s a smart move. His thing is to definitely try to keep that belt as long as he possibly can and he doesn’t want to look at me. And I understand that, good for him, he’s smart.”

In addition to GSP and Henderson, Bisping has also expressed an interest in facing “Jacare” Souza.

Weidman battled Rockhold in December, and the later went on to stop him in the fourth round.
