Middleweight Clifford Starks will make his Octagon debut on eight days notice. The Ultimate Fighting Championship has announced today that the undefeated middleweight is stepping in for Brad Tavares, who has been forced to withdraw from his October 28th bout with Dustin Jacoby due to injury.

The nature of the injury that removed Tavares from UFC 137 was not disclosed.

Despite the short notice, Starks (7-0) should be in fight shape for next weekend’s card, as he is coming off a unanimous decision win over Artenas Young at Shark Fights 20 on October 15th. The 30 year-old-middleweight has spent much of his career fighting on the Arizona circuit.

Jacoby (6-0) is also a UFC newcomer and last competed on September 4th, when he stopped Billy Horne while competing for Annihilation Productions. The 23 year-old-fighter turned professional in 2010.

UFC 137 will be headlined by a welterweight bout between former Strikeforce champion Nick Diaz and former UFC champ BJ Penn. Some of the other bout scheduled for the event include Cheick Kongo vs. Matt Mitrione, Hatsu Hioki vs. George Roop, and Scott Jorgensen vs. Jeff Curran.

The card will be hosted by The Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
