After defeating who many considered to be the greatest bantamweight of all time in December, it doesn’t sound like Cody Garbrandt’s worried about his chances again TJ Dillashaw.
Garbrandt faced Dominick Cruz at UFC 207 in his last outing, and outscored the renowned fighter to become the 135 champ. The bout marked the first time since 2007 that Cruz had been defeated.
Currently Garbrandt is coaching opposite of Dillashaw on the set of TUF 25, and the two are expected to fight sometime in July. While speaking to the media recently, Garbrandt argued that he “broke” Cruz during their December bout, and the new champ questioned whether the latter will ever be the same.
In addition, Garbrandt had this to say about Dillashaw, who used to train alongside the heavy handed fighter at Team Alpha Male (quote via MMA Junkie):
“I’ve very content with fighting T.J. I’m happy to fight T.J. I want to fight T.J. He’s is not a good person. He’s not a good person, and he’s kind of a generic version of Dominick Cruz.”
Dillashaw and Cruz fought in January, 2016, and the latter reclaimed the bantamweight title via a split decision win.
