Demian Maia’s been defeated just once since 2014, and has defeated several, top welterweights during that time, but Colby Covington isn’t short on confidence as their bout nears.

The two are booked to fight at UFC Fight Night 119,  which will take place on October 28th in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Maia will be looking to get back on track, following his decision loss to champion Tyron Woodley in July. The vaunted grappler was booked for a title shot after Maia had won seven straight bouts, and defeated the likes of Matt Brown, Carlos Condit, Gunnar Nelson and Jorge Masvidal.

Recently Covington was a guest on MMA Junkie.com Radio, and the rising welterweight said this about Maia (quotes via MMA Junkie):

“I feel like his game has been the same since the beginning,” Covington said. “He’s very one dimensional. He just goes forward, he’s looking for takedowns, and he’s looking to get it to the ground and get a submission. He’s an old dog – he hasn’t learned any new tricks. It’s going to be the same Demian Maia. We’re not going to see any surprises.

“I’m going to expose him for that.”

Covington, meanwhile, is riding a four fight winning streak and defeated Dong Hyun Kim by decision in his last bout.
