Although the consensus is that a boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor will never happen, the latter says it could, provided the boxing star comes up with $100 million…

Earlier this year, rumors regarding a Mayweather – McGregor boxing match were making the rounds, in large part due to comments the retired boxing champ made. The rumors were also circulating when McGregor’s rematch with Nate Diaz had yet to be re-booked, after the bout was pulled from UFC 200.

Recently McGregor held a press conference in advance of his August 20th fight with Diaz, and the Irish star was asked about fighting Mayweather (quote via MMA Fighting.com). The featherweight champ stated:

“Yeah, of course,” McGregor said. “Right now I have Floyd running around the Showtime offices gathering my money. That’s what he’s doing. He’s running around the Showtime offices, begging for those executives to come up with $100 million cash for me to fight me. So as soon as he gets my money, we can fight.”

Mayweather has repeatedly said he would come out of retirement to box McGregor. Due to the latter’s UFC contract, however, he would require permission from the promotion to compete in the bout.
