Now that Conor McGregor appears headed back to the featherweight division, it remains to be seen who the UFC will pick for the champ to face next.

The consensus candidates are Frankie Edgar and Jose Aldo, and both men have resumed their calls for a fight with McGregor, following the latter’s loss to Nate Diaz on Saturday night.

Recently McGregor’s coach, John Kavanagh, appeared on “The MMA Hour”. While discussing who he’d like to see McGregor fight next, Kavanagh stated (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“Me personally, maybe the Aldo rematch, I’d like to see that again,” Kavanagh said. “I just think the first one was great for us, but it was a little bit unfulfilling…a little bit. I think Aldo has a fantastic set of skills, he was a great champion and I didn’t think that quite closed the chapter on that. So, [let’s] see a proper fight.

“I think stylistically it would be a very nice fight to watch and a very good challenge. So that’s my personal opinion, but like I said, I’m not the decision-maker on that.”

McGregor knocked Aldo out in just 13 seconds at UFC 194 in December. Prior to the loss, Aldo had won 18 straight fights and had been the only featherweight champ in UFC history.
