Following the UFC’s decision to pull Conor McGregor from UFC 200, the latter’s coach is questioning whether the UFC should change its approach to holding promotional events.

McGregor was pulled from a July 9th rematch with Nate Diaz recently, after he refused to attend all the promotional appearances the promotion had scheduled for UFC 200. The parties hit an impasse when McGregor elected to stay in Iceland and train, rather than fly to Las Vegas for a press conference. UFC President Dana White has said that fighters are obligated to attend media events, in person, and that no exceptions will be made.

The featherweight champ’s coach, John Kavanagh, recently appeared on “The MMA Hour”. While discussing the fallout between McGregor and the UFC, the Irish coach stated (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“The way the world is now, you don’t have to be physically at places to be involved in things,” Kavanagh said. … “I don’t know what this obsession is with Vegas. UFC is a global sport, not a Vegas sport. I don’t see why everything has to be done there.”

McGregor and Diaz fought for the first time in March, and the latter won the bout via second round, submission.
