Controversial Lentz, Oliveira Result Not Overturned Yet, Ruling Expected Wednesday
By FCF Staff
A ruling on whether Charles Oliveira’s submission win over Nik Lentz will still stand has not been made yet, according to Pennsylvania Athletic Commission Executive Director Gregory Sirb. The Director informed FCF today that a ruling on last night’s UFC Live on Versus bout in Pittsburgh is expected Wednesday.
Shortly before Oliveira tapped out Lentz in the second round with a rear-naked-choke, he blasted the grounded Minnesota Martial Arts Academy fighter to the face with a knee, an illegal strike. Referee Chip Snider missed the infraction and the fight was over soon after.
Lentz’s coach, Greg Nelson, reportedly posted on his Facebook account that the bout had already been overturned and declared a no contest. The Commission will review the bout over the next couple of days before an official ruling is made.
Despite the controversy, Oliveira and Lentz were awarded “Fight of the Night” honors and each lightweight collected an additional $50,000 for their efforts.
