Dan Henderson Fires Verbal Shot at Dana White After Jon Jones-Chael Sonnen Fight Announced
By FCF Staff
One had to wonder how the news that Chael Sonnen will fight UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones next would sit with top contender Dan Henderson, and now we know. Henderson, who was scheduled to fight Jones at the doomed UFC 151 card, until a knee injury forced his withdrawal, posted the following statement via his Twitter account.
I guess I should just quit training to win fights and to be exciting for the fans and just go to shit talking school. @danawhite
Yesterday the Los Angeles Times reported that Sonnen and Jones will coach opposite one another on the next season of The Ultimate Fighter and will fight after the season concludes on April 27th.
The outspoken Sonnen recently decided to return to the light-heavyweight division following his stoppage loss to middleweight champion Anderson Silva this summer. Sonnen, who has been calling out Jones for several weeks now, was originally scheduled to fight Forrest Griffin on December 29th.
Henderson was awarded a shot at Jones after working his way to a unanimous decision win over former champ “Shogun” Rua last November. The former Strikeforce champion has won four straight bouts which includes a TKO win over Fedor Emelianenko. The 42 year-old Henderson did not require surgery for his knee and is expected to return relatively soon.
After Henderson withdrew from UFC 151, Sonnen offered to fight Jones on short notice, but the champion elected to take a bout with Vitor Belfort later that month instead.
Lyoto Machida, who had also been tapped for a title shot following a knockout win over Ryan Bader, turned down an opportunity to fight Jones at UFC 152 citing a lack of time to prepare.
Filming for the latest season of The Ultimate Fighter, which has seen ratings drop as of late, will reportedly begin later this month.
