The consensus among MMA observers is that 2017 has been a down year for the UFC, but on Thursday, Dana White claimed otherwise.

Since Conor McGregor and Ronda Rousey have not competed in the Octagon this past year, estimates have been that the UFC’s pay-per-view numbers are down significantly. McGregor’s two bouts with Nate Diaz last year, are believed to have sold over 3 million alone. It’s believed that no UFC card in 2017 has sold more than 1 million PPV buys.

But, at the pre-fight press conference for UFC 217, White claimed that this year will be the “biggest” in the “company’s history”.

UFC 217 will be hosted by Madison Square Garden in New York City. In the main event, Georges St-Pierre will challenge middleweight champ, Michael Bisping.
