Dana White Comments on Negotiations With Georges St-Pierre

Recently it’s been reported that Dana White and Georges St-Pierre are on better terms, and that negotiations will resume between the UFC and the star. But, the UFC President is calling on GSP’s team to be “reasonable”.

Earlier this year St-Pierre revealed that he wanted to return to the Octagon, provided he could negotiate a new contract with the UFC. The former welterweight champ has said he needs a new contract, which will compensate him for the sponsorship revenue he’s lost, as a result of the UFC-Reebok uniform deal. When St-Pierre announced his hiatus from fighting in 2013, no uniform deal existed. The UFC followed up with its own announcement, however, stating that they believe GSP remains under contract.

More recently, St-Pierre and his lawyer have argued that the fighter is a free agent, since the UFC did not offer him a fight before a deadline they had set. White was a guest on Chad Dukes vs. The World this week, and during the interview, he said this (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“I have a good relationship with Georges and yeah, obviously, we would love him to fight,” White said. “The problem is, Georges has a deal. Georges is under contract with us right now. He has a deal. I’m not afraid to give Georges St-Pierre more money, but it’s got to be reasonable.”

Last week it was revealed that St-Pierre is on the board of the MMA Athletes Association, which is hoping to secure better pay and benefits from the UFC.
