Dana White: Machida-Diaz Not Happening, Proposal “Bad Idea”
By FCF Staff
Dana White recently turned some heads by disclosing that he had approached Nick Diaz about fighting Lyoto Machida, but the UFC President says the fight is a no go.
Speaking in a media scrum, following last night’s UFC Fight Night 26 card, White reported that although Diaz did not turn down the fight, he’s unable to take it. White wouldn’t offer any details as to why that is. The executive proceeded to say the bout proposal was a “bad idea.”
Machida has expressed an interest recently in dropping down to 185 pounds, following his controversial, split decision defeat to light-heavyweight contender Phil Davis. Machida has let it be known that he would like to fight Vitor Belfort, however, the latter has said he’s not willing to fight at middleweight unless its for the championship.
Belfort has said he wants to fight Chael Sonnen next, but the American once again called out Wanderlei Silva, after tapping out “Shogun” Rua at UFC FN 26.
