Although it remains to be seen when Jose Aldo will fight Conor McGregor, UFC President Dana White says the promotion was considering taking special steps to accommodate the massive fight.

When Aldo-McGregor was still booked for Saturday, White predicted that the bout would break the promotion’s gate records. Even after Aldo withdrew due to injury, and Chad Mendes was brought in, White forecast UFC 189 would set new records.

Considering how big Mendes-McGregor was, one would think that Aldo-McGregor will be even bigger. Thus, this is why White told FOX Sports 1 the following, after Saturday’s card (quote via FOX Sports 1 press release):

“That fight is massive. We wanted to build an outdoor arena here to do it, but the timing doesn’t work. I’m not talking about Aldo anymore. Everything I say about him gets twisted when it gets down to Brazil. Aldo will fight Conor. We’ll figure it out. We’re waiting for Aldo.”

At the post-fight press conference, White also relayed that the promotion will likely hold Aldo-McGregor in Las Vegas. The UFC President revealed the news, after he was asked whether the fight could possibly be held at Croke Park in McGregor’s native Ireland.

McGregor stopped Mendes in the second round at UFC 189 to become interim featherweight champ.
