Dana White Says “Rampage” Jackson Off UFC 153 Card

Jackson

It appears as though “Rampage” Jackson’s wish to exit from the UFC will be delayed, as the promotion’s president Dana White announced today that the former light-heavyweight champ will no longer fight at UFC 153 as scheduled.

According to White’s Twitter account, an injury has forced Jackson to withdraw from his October 13th bout with Glover Teixeira.

No information regarding the nature of Jackson’s injury or a possible replacement was given.

The 34 year-old Jackson (32-10) hasn’t competed since February when he dropped a unanimous decision loss to Ryan Bader. The defeat followed a submission loss to current champ Jon Jones in September.

More recently, Jackson has criticized the UFC for its salary structure and has stated that he will leave the promotion once he has completed his current contract.

Teixeira (18-2) is coming off a successful Octagon debut, as in May he tapped out Kyle Kingsbury with a first round, arm-triangle-choke.  The 32 year-old Brazilian is currently riding a 16 fight win streak.

UFC 153 will be hosted by HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro and will feature featherweight champion Jose Aldo versus former lightweight champ Frankie Edgar.
