As Anderson Silva gets set to make his return versus Nick Diaz at UFC 183, Dana White has relayed once again, that the legendary middleweight could lock up a title shot on January 31st.

Although Silva has been defeated on two occasions by reigning champ Chris Weidman, White noted that the former champion could secure another title shot at UFC 183, while appearing on “UFC Tonight.” While discussing the promotion’s 2015 agenda, White was quoted saying (quote via FOX Sports 1):

“2015 is starting off with amazing fights. It’s the best January in the company’s history. And all these fights lead to bigger fights. If you look at the Cormier vs. Jones, then Gustafsson vs. Rumble, then the winners of those fight and that will be a great fight. You’ve got Vitor vs. Weidman, then Anderson. If Anderson wins, he can fight the winner of either Vitor or Weidman. Rousey fights Cat Zingano, then she’ll fight again in July. If Conor wins, then he fights Aldo, which is then the biggest fight ever in that division.”

While Weidman stopped Silva in consecutive bouts back in 2013, both fights concluded in unique and unfortunate circumstances. At UFC 162, Silva was knocked out shortly after he taunted Weidman with his hands down, and in the rematch at UFC 168, the legend broke his leg in the second round.

Weidman, meanwhile, has gone on to decision Lyoto Machida, and will fight Vitor Belfort on February 28th at UFC 184.
