It could be nearly or over three years when the Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to Boston, but according to the promotion’s president Dana White, the company plans on hosting an event in the Massachusetts city  in 2013.

White relayed the plans following this weekend’s UFC 158 card in Montreal; however, he did not provide any details regarding the date, other than to say it will “be sooner than people think.”

The promotion hasn’t been back to Boston since August, 2010, when it held UFC 118. The card was hosted by TD Garden and featured a rematch between Frankie Edgar and BJ Penn in the main event.

Edgar scored a unanimous decision win to retain the lightweight championship.
