Dana White Says Yoel Romero, Not GSP, Will Fight Michael Bisping Next

Just days after Georges St-Pierre announced he won’t be ready to fight Michael Bisping until later this year, the UFC has decided to ditch the planned bout.

Late last week, St-Pierre released a video, whereby he informed Bisping that he’d be ready to fight “after October”. When the match-up was announced earlier this year, both Bisping and UFC President Dana White said they wanted the bout to take place in July. The planned bout had been widely criticized by middleweight contenders and purists alike, and GSP’s latest announcement renewed criticism of the fight.

White recently spoke with FOX Sports Australia, and while doing so, he announced Yoel Romero is going to face Bisping next.

“Georges St-Pierre is saying he will not be ready to compete now until November. Who knows if that’s even the case. It could be next year.”

“So we’re not waiting for Georges St-Pierre anymore. We’re moving on with the division, and Yoel Romero will get the next shot.”

The UFC President did not offer any details as to when Bisping – Romero might take place. But, one would guess it will be booked for sometime this summer.
