Dana White Still “Fully” Expects Conor McGregor to Defend 145 Title, Says Stephen Thompson Will Face Tyron Woodley

Conor McGregor hasn’t outright said he intends to defend the 145 title following UFC 202, but Dana White still believes the Irish star will.
McGregor is scheduled to fight Nate Diaz in a welterweight contest on August 20th, and many have speculated that if he wins, he won’t return to 145. Recently White did an interview for UFC.com, and while discussing the featherweight and welterweight title shot pictures, the UFC President said this:
“I fully expect Conor to come back and defend his 145-pound title,” White said. “I think that Nate feels his brother should have the fight at 170, but Nick is not going to come back and fight for the title right away.
“There are other guys deserving of a title shot. Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson is going to fight for the 170-pound title and then we’ll see what happens with Nick and Nate.”
After Tyron Woodley KO’d Robbie Lawler at UFC 201 last month, the new welterweight champ said he would rather fight Nick Diaz or Georges St-Pierre. Thompson is currently ranked #2 at 170 and has won seven straight.
