Dana White Surprised Eddie Alvarez Isn’t Ranked Higher in UFC’s 155 Division

Now that Eddie Alvarez is with the UFC, the former Bellator champ has been voted in as the promotion’s #14 ranked lightweight, but Dana White evidently doesn’t agree with the position.

Alvarez, who is scheduled to fight Donald Cerrone at UFC 178 on September 27th, arrived in the promotion having gone 9-1 in his last 10 fights. During that time, the veteran has scored wins over the likes of Michael Chandler, Roger Huerta, Pat Curran and Shinya Aoki, among others.

While discussing Alvarez’s upcoming debut with UFC.com, here is what White had to say about the 30 year-old’s current ranking:

“Holy S**t. I didn’t know that. I think it seems a little low, but you know what? It’s been a bad run for Eddie Alvarez,” White said. “In my opinion, he’s lost a couple of the best years of his career because of what was done to him over there. We’re weeks away from finding out where he sits.”

Alvarez opted to sign with the UFC in 2012, but after Bellator matched ZUFFA’s offer, a long legal battle ensued. The fighter returned to the Bellator cage in November, 2013, and Alvarez defeated Chandler by split decision.

The UFC’s rankings are determined by a panel of media members following every event.

UFC 178 will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
