Glover Teixeira ensured he remains in the title shot mix by taking out Ovince Saint Preux last weekend, and UFC light-heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier was impressed with what he saw.

Teixeira absorbed some heavy kicks and punches early on from OSP, before putting his wrestling and top game in action. Teixeira went on to win the memorable bout via a third round, rear-naked-choke.

Cormier was asked to weigh-in on Teixeira’s performance in the latest “UFC Tonight”, and here is some of what the champ had to say (quote via FOX Sports 1 press release):

Glover looked amazing. He has dynamite in his hands. He never strayed from the game plan, took Ovince down and got a finish. We figured the biggest advantage would be Glover’s wrestling and it showed. Ovince was doing well at the beginning with his kicks to the body, but he fell in love with it. Eventually he was feeding his leg for Glover to take him down. He was telegraphing his kick. At times it felt like he didn’t need to set up his kicks with his punches and that cost him.”

The win ended a two fight losing streak for Teixeira, who was coming off losses to Phil Davis and Jon Jones.

Cormier, meanwhile, is scheduled to fight Alexander Gustafsson on October 3rd.
