Demetrious Johnson Outlines Why he Thinks he’s the P4P Best

Demetrious Johnson

By FCF Staff

Demetrious Johnson is currently listed as the promotion’s best pound-for-pound fighter, and the flyweight champ agrees with that assessment of his abilities.

For some time now, Johnson and Jon Jones have often been cited as the game’s best P4P fighter. But, currently Jones is not listed in the UFC rankings, as a result of his recent one year suspension.

Johnson was a guest on a recent episode of “The MMA Hour”, and when he was asked if he believes he’s the P4P best, “Mighty Mouse” stated yes (quote via MMA Fighting):

“You know what, I believe so — I think I am,” Johnson said. “I think going out there and showing everything in my last fight [against Elliott]. I showed I had a good clinch. [And I] TKO’d Henry Cejudo — Joseph Benavidez just went three rounds with him even though it was an improved Henry Cejudo…”

“…I think for me when you see the overall pound-for-pound…if I was the same size as Cruz, or the same size as [Jon] Jones, weight-wise, everything is identically the same, I would think that I would be able to beat them, showing what I’ve been able to do in the Octagon.

“I’ve knocked people out from the clinch. I’ve submitted people from armbars, Kimura, last-second armbars. I’ve knocked people out with one-hand punch.”

Johnson is coming off a decision win over TUF 24 winner Timothy Elliott in early December. Conor McGregor is currently ranked #2 in the P4P rankings, and Cruz is positioned at #3.
