Despite a growing online campaign, veteran heavyweight Mark Hunt will not fight UFC champion Junior dos Santos at UFC 146, if indeed Alistair Overeem is not cleared to compete as orginally scheduled.

For several days now, fans have been calling for Hunt to step in for the unlicensed Overeem against dos Santos, by asking the UFC and the promotion’s president Dana White for the match-up via Twitter.

Recently, the UFC and White responded to the Twitter campaign by tweeting:

Dana crushes the #RallyForMarkHunt – says if Hunt beats Struve, he’ll get a top-5 opponent, then can talk about title dreams.

Hunt is scheduled to fight Stefan Struve at the upcoming May 26th, UFC 146 card, which was set to feature a title fight between dos Santos and Overeem.

Overeem has allegedly tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone, however, and the unlicensed fighter will appear in front of the Nevada State Athletic Commission on April 24th.

The support for Hunt stems from the K-1 veteran’s three fight win streak, which includes wins over Chris Tuchscherer, Ben Rothwell and most recently Cheick Kongo, who the heavyweight stopped in February.
