Diego Sanchez Eyeing March 3rd Bout With Takanori Gomi

Sanchez

By FCF Staff

Diego Sanchez is hoping to fight Takanori Gomi when he returns to action next year, as the veteran has posted on his official Twitter account that a March 2nd bout with the former PRIDE champ is in the works for March 2nd.

Sanchez’s tweet read: “Might have a fight lined up for march 2nd… Just waiting on the man Joe Silva to see if Mr. Fireball kid takes it? #japan#yesyesyes”

Gomi (34-8), or “The Fireball Kid”, is coming off a split decision win over Mac Danzig at the recent UFC on FUEL card in Macau, after stopping Eiji Mitsuoka at UFC 144 in February.

The wins came after the 34 year-old, Japanese fighter dropped back-to-back bouts to Clay Guida and Nate Diaz.

Sanchez (23-5) hasn’t competed since February, when he dropped a unanimous decision loss to welterweight contender Jake Ellenberger. Although the defeat came after Sanchez had scored wins over Martin Kampmann and Paulo Thiago, the 30 year-old has elected to return to the lightweight division.

The upcoming, March 3rd (event will air in North America on March 2nd) UFC on FUEL card will be hosted by the Saitama Super Arena in Japan.

The UFC has not made any official announcement regarding the reported bout.
