Duffee vs. Gaston, Osawa vs. Fujiwara Confirmed for Dream 17

By FCF Staff

Dream continues to round out the card for its upcoming July 16th event in Tokyo, Japan, as the promotion has confirmed that UFC vet Todd Duffee will take on Nick Gaston and Kenji Osawa will battle Keisuke Fujiwara for third place in the organization’s bantamweight grand-prix.

Dream 17 will be hosted by Tokyo’s Ariake Coliseum and will feature the bantamweight tourney’s final between Hideo Tokoro and Masakazu Imanari.

Duffee (6-2) will be looking to end a two fight losing streak after being stopped by Mike Russow and more recently Strikeforce champion Alistair Overeem in back-to-back bouts. The heavyweight prospect’s last win came at UFC 102 in August, 2009, when he knocked Tim Hague out in seven seconds.

Gaston (5-0) has gone undefeated competing under the King of the Cage banner since he turned professional in 2009. Most recently Gaston stopped Jerry Burns in the first round at a KOTC card in April.

Osawa (17-10-2) failed to advance to the bantamweight GP finals on May 29th, when he was submitted by the aforementioned Imanari with a second round, Achilles Lock. Osawa defeated Takafumi Otsuka by split decision that same night.

Fujiwara (11-3-4) was also eliminated from the grand-prix by Imanari at Dream’s recent “Fight for Japan,” who defeated him by unanimous decision. The Japanese fighter’s last win came on February 6th, when he defended his ZST belt by submitting Toshihiro Shimizu in the fifth round.

Dream 17 will also include a light-heavyweight bout between champion Gegard Mousasi and challenger Hiroshi Izumi.
