Halifax, NS – March 11 – Ten years after holding the first sanctioned MMA event in Atlantic Canada, Extreme Cage Combat returned to the Halifax Forum for its 24th show.  ECC 24 was scheduled to have eight amateur and four professional fights; however, the scheduled main event between Adam Hunter (5-1) and Mike Kent (11-6) had to be scrapped due to a reported medical issue suffered by Kent.  This left the main event and co-main events to fighters making their pro debuts versus 0-2 fighters.

In the main event, light heavyweight JP shortfall of Halifax made a successful pro debut defeating Shane Daley of Moncton, New Brunswick by tap out due to strikes at just the 1:12 mark of the first round. After the fight was stopped Daley immediately complained to the ref about a low blow, but to no avail.  This was the 34 year old Daley’s first fight in eight years as he drops to 0-3.

In the co-main event, welterweight Ryan Potter of Wolfville, Nova Scotia, improved his pro record to 1-2 with a nice triangle choke submission victory over the debuting Kenny Doucette of Saint John, New Brunswick, at just the 48 second mark of round one.

The night’s first pro fight was a battle of 1-0 lightweight prospects as Fred Stonehouse, fighting out of the Ottawa Association of Martial Arts took on Collin Baikie, fighting out of Tristar gym by way of North West River, Labrador.  Baikie received one of the biggest ovations of the night from a large contingent of fans who made the trip to Halifax all the way from Labrador.  The fighters exchanged leg kicks early and it was Stonehose who landed the first hard punch that stunned Baikie which forced Baikie to clinch up against the cage where the fighters exchanged knees.  Stonehouse landed a punch that knocked out Baikie at the 2:15 mark of round one to improve his pro record to 2-0.

It was the amateurs who stole the show at ECC’s tenth anniversary show.  In the final amateur fight of the evening, Andrew Shawn Thomas of Titan’s MMA in Halifax dominated Newfoundlander Dean Langdon with ground and pound, until getting the TKO stoppage at 2:14 of the opening round.

In the lone female fight of the evening, former amateur boxing standout, Chantelle Doucette made her MMA debut, defeating Rachel Wise by unanimous decision in their three times three minute round amateur fight.

The fight of the night went to a welterweight scrap between Jacob Palmer and Connor Victory.  This was a fight that saw Victory come close to victory on a couple of occasions. The Cape Bretoner landed some big punches standing and some vicious ground and pound that had Palmer busted up.  Palmer gutted it out and continued to fight back.  Moments after it appeared as if the ref was taking a close look at stopping the ground and pound assault from Victory, Palmer created a scramble and got the back of his opponent and sunk in the fight ending rear naked choke submission at the 2:39 mark of the second round.
