Edgar vs. Maynard III, Other Bouts Announced for UFC 136

By FCF Staff

Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard finally have a new date in mind for their third bout, as the UFC has announced today that the two have verbally agreed to fight October 8th. The upcoming UFC 136 card will be hosted by the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

The third fight between Maynard and the lightweight champion Edgar (pictured) was originally set for May 28th at UFC 130, but injuries to both men postponed the bout.

Maynard (10-0-1) scored a unanimous decision win over Edgar in their first meeting at Fight Night 13 in April, 2008, before the two battled to a memorable draw at UFC 125 this past January.

After Maynard handed Edgar (13-1-1) his first and only professional defeat, the New Jersey fighter went on to win five straight bouts including back-to-back UD victories over former champion BJ Penn.

Maynard headed into his second bout with Edgar having earned victories over notable competitors like Roger Huerta, Jim Miller and Kenny Florian.

The UFC has also announced that middleweights Damien Maia (14-3) and Jorge Santiago (23-9) have agreed to fight  at the October 8th event, in addition to lightweights Joe Lauzon (20-6) and Melvin Guillard (28-9-2), who have also verbally agreed to square off at UFC 136.

Earlier today the UFC confirmed two other bouts for the upcoming Houston event, as Dave Herman will meet heavyweight Mike Russow and featherweight Josh Grispi will take on Matt Grice.

A middleweight contest between Chael Sonnen and Brian Stann is also scheduled for UFC 136.
