Floyd Mayweather Says Conor McGregor Bout “Very Close”, NSAC Rep Confirms Negotiations

Floyd Mayweather

It remains to be seen if a boxing match between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather actually ever happens, but the latter is claiming that the bout is close to being finalized.

In recent weeks both McGregor and Mayweather have said they want the fight to happen, however, coming to terms and signing the fight is another matter. Recently UFC President Dana White offered each man $25 million for the bout, plus a share of the revenue, but Mayweather turned it down.

Since then, White has said the fight cannot take place without the UFC being involved. White has also said there’s little chance that the match will take place.

But, according to a new report from ESPN, Mayweather is claiming that the fight is “very, very close” to being signed. In addition, the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s chairman Anthony Marnell has confirmed to the outlet that the commission is aware of negotiations for the bout. Marnell also added, however, that the fight “still seems like a long shot”, and that “contractual obligations” remain a hurdle.

The report also says that sources have confirmed McGregor recently arrived in Las Vegas. Mayweather and the UFC are both headquartered in the Nevada city.
