Floyd Mayweather Says Only Conor McGregor Fight Will End His Retirement

Floyd Mayweather

Most observers throughout the MMA world have dismissed the idea that Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather will fight in a boxing match, but the latter continues to push for the bout.

Recently a report surfaced stating that a fight between McGregor and Mayweather was close to being signed. UFC President Dana White, however, shot down the story, although he has told Mayweather to “call” him in interviews.

Well, although Mayweather apparently has done that just yet, he continues to talk about the potential showdown with McGregor. This past weekend the retired boxer told ESNEWS the following (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“If I do fight, it’s only against Conor McGregor. That’s gonna be my only fight and not against nobody else because this matchup is just so intriguing. You have a fighter against an MMA fighter, one of the best MMA fighters to do combat and stand up and do it. He’s a strong fighter and when I look at him fight he’s a little faster than I thought he was so if the fight happens I can’t overlook the guy. I’m pretty sure – if we make the fight happen – I’m pretty sure he’s gonna push me to the limit.”

The 39 year-old Mayweather retired from boxing last year armed with a record of 49-0. The expectation is, however, that he will return in an effort to record his 50th pro win.
