Frank Mir has competed against many of the best heavyweights during his storied career, but the former champ says Mark Hunt landed the hardest blow he’s ever received at UFC Fight Night 85.

Hunt and Mir battled on March 19th, and the latter was sent crashing to the floor in the opening round, after taking a big right hand. The bout was immediately waved off by referee Marc Goddard, but since Mir wasn’t out cold, some observers scrutinized the decision to stop the fight.

In a recent episode of Mir’s podcast, however, the veteran reported that he was badly stunned by the punch, and that Goddard made the right decision to stop the fight. The 36 year-old also said this  (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“By far the hardest punch I’ve ever received in my career,” Mir said. “Immediately, I felt like I was under water. The lights were on, but for a good 10 to 15 seconds the room spun.”

Mir, who lost three of his last five fights and six of his last eight, also said that he intends to keep fighting. Hunt, meanwhile, has two straight bouts and is three and two in his last five contests.
