Fresh Off Grand Prix Win, Daniel Cormier Confirms Broken Hand

By FCF Staff

Although Daniel Cormier further demonstrated Saturday night why he is one of the sport’s fastest rising heavyweights, the decorated wrestler did not emerge from his knockout win over Antiono Silva unscathed. According to a post on Cormier’s official Twitter account, the 32 year-old-fighter broke his hand during his Strikeforce Heavweight Grand-Prix semi-final victory.

Just got done seeing Dr. Hand is broken will be on the shelf 4 a while. Still looking forward to finishing tourney. Thx 4 support. DC

Despite the fact that no timeline has yet been set for Cormier’s return, barring some unforeseen setbacks, the American Kickboxing Academy fighter should be able to return in time for the tourney finals, which reportedly will take place in early 2012.

Cormier will face former UFC champion Josh Barnett in the competition’s finals, who submitted Sergei Kharitonov with a first round, arm-triangle-choke.

The first round win for Cormier extended the former Olympic wrestler’s MMA record to 9-0, and was approximately three months removed from his unanimous decision win over Jeff Monson in June.
