Full Contact Fighter’s “The Daily Takedown”: Chael Sonnen — the Bob Sapp of the UFC

Chael Sonnen vs. Shogun Rua?

How does Sonnen do it?

He’s figured out a way to angle himself into yet another big main event when he collides with Rua at the debut show on FS1 on Aug. 17.

Sonnen is turning into the Bob Sapp of the UFC — a big draw, even if he can’t win anymore.

At this rate, we should be ready to see Sonnen bulk up to fight Daniel Cormier at some point.

In pro wrestling, unless your Bill Goldberg in 1997, records don’t matter. Sonnen, a huge wrestling fan, is doing his best to make MMA records not matter either.

. . . Fresh off a beating of KJ Noons, Donald Cerrone will move one step closer to a title shot when he battles Rafael dos Anjos on Aug. 28 on FS1.

Cerrone’s wicked pounding of the former Elite XC champ helped put him back on the map after a stunning KO loss to Anthony Pettis.

Noons, on the other hand, has been silent since his UFC debut.

. . . Cung Le is calling out Michael Bisping, in a fight that would certainly make for good television. Le is probably eager to step into the cage with Bisping after seeing Belfort’s KO of the fighter.

Everybody wants a piece of Bisping, from Le to Luke Rockhold and Rich Franklin.

Not sure if that’s good or bad for Bisping if everybody wants to fight him.

He’d be smart to avoid Le and Rockhold if he wants a title shot.
